Lego is Still A Great Gift

Author: Cory Willins

Lego is one of the old standbys in a childs toy box, but it remains a great gift for any child under the age of 12. Lego is not just a standard set of interlocking blocks anymore; there are many different types of Lego and Lego theme sets to choose from. If a child likes Star Wars, dinosaurs, building cities, racing cars or machines there are Lego sets available that are custom designed to meet the needs of imaginative children with these interests. The really unique quality of Lego is that even older children and adults enjoy playing with the building blocks that comprise a Lego set. It can be a great opportunity for children and parents to spend time together doing something they all enjoy.

In addition to supplying blocks and building materials, Lego is very child friendly with the inclusion of very easy to understand pictures and directions on completing projects. Lego has also developed a line of products for very young preschool children broken down into three separate ages, 1 month to 18 months, age 1 year to 3 years and ages 2 to 6 years. The blocks are larger and easier to work with, and many figures and other accessories are included.

Get the Creative Juices Flowing with Lego

Children of all ages love Lego for the creativity it allows them. The plastic blocks and accessories are easy to manipulate and can be used to create a multitude of items. All sets interchange, so it is possible to use parts from one theme set with parts from another to truly create one of a kind Lego projects. Another great aspect of giving Lego as a gift to a child is that it is often an opportunity for adults and children to work together, and to see the creative side of each other.

Check Out the Lego Website

Lego has developed a website and a Lego club that children can join for free. Children can have access to pictures and descriptions of projects that other children have completed, as well as being able to post their own projects online. There are also message boards where children can interact with each other and discuss Lego. Stickers, newsletters and other special features are all part of being a member of the Lego Club.

In this time of high tech and high cost gifts it is nice to know that there are still activities available for children that help them develop creativity, motor skills and imagination. Lego is just such a toy, and it is still a very popular and well-loved gift to receive. For older and younger children the theme packages are a terrific idea, and they can be combined with any existing Lego sets to provide even more potential for imagination and creativity.
