Internet Marketing Lessons From The Rich Jerk And His Infomercial

Author: Gaston Collins

It's no doubt that the Rich Jerk is a huge success for it's creator and author, who shall remain nameless. It's also true that there is some very valuable information inside the book. But, the lessons that could be learned from watching how far the creator has taken the Rich Jerk concept are truly priceless!

Sales Copywriting

Perhaps the biggest lesson that should be learned from the Rich Jerk is the importance of great sales copywriting. Without this, your product is dead in the water. If you can't convince your visitors that they need what your selling to solve their problem, all the visitors in the world won't make you a dime!

The Rich Jerk took a really unusual copywriting approach to this. His purpose was to offend you and talk down to you enough to make you want to make the purchase. He's rude, crude, extremely obnoxious, and sometimes even obscene! And he sells his books like hotcakes!

But the value of writing quality sales copy that converts doesn't stop there. In fact there's much more to the Rich Jerk's equation.

Recruit Top Gun Affiliates

Affiliates are important for reaching people that otherwise wouldn't know your product or website exists. You can easily recruit affiliates for almost any product and make a few extra sales. However, if you want to recruit the top gun affiliates that influence large masses of people, converting visitors to your website into customers is absolutely necessary!

The top affiliates don't want to send large numbers of people to your site if the site doesn't stand a chance in converting into sales. They'd much rather send them to a site that will earn them a nice commission.

There's also another really important benefit of recruiting affiliates that a lot of people overlook. It may be the single most important factor that lead to the success of the Rich Jerk.

Branding

If you spent anytime at all on the Internet over the past 9 months, you've probably seen dozens of ads promoting the Rich Jerk. He was in every little corner on the web. You couldn't go 5 pages without seeing his name and receiving a quick, "I'm rich and you're not!", or some other insult!

Do you think he placed these ads on his own? Of course not... it would literally cost $100,000's to buy all of the advertising space. But you can bet that he made countless sales from branding his name into the heads of web surfers all over the world!

So who helped the Rich Jerk with his branding campaign? Well, his affiliates of course.

His affiliates bought the advertising space, sent the emails, posted banners on their sites, built web sites specifically to promote the Rich Jerk, posted affiliate links in their signature on message boards, and even passed out flyers on the streets! They went through all of this work, just so they could make a sales commission when they referred someone to Rich Jerk's website and bought the book!

So as all of his affiliates posted more and more ads, Rich Jerk's audience grew exponentially in size - and he only paid for it when a sale was made!

Without quality sales copy that converts visitors to customers, you may have never even heard of the Rich Jerk because affiliates would never consider promoting his book.

Don't Rest On Your Laurels

Did the Rich Jerk's creator make a lot of money with his ebook? Definitely. Could he have let the Rich Jerk concept run it's course and eventually die-off into the info-product graveyard? Sure, but did he? Well, that just wouldn't be the Rich Jerk's style, would it?

Instead of resting on his laurels, he grew the Rich Jerk concept into a network of services. His services now include:

  • Paperback book with CD-ROM

  • Rich Jerk optimized website

  • Rich Jerk web hosting

He could have easily taken his money and gone home, but he didn't! Instead he's now offering related products and services that will net him several more millions over the course of this year! The Rich jerk knows his market and he knows what they are looking for.

Know Your Market

Many people would say that Rich Jerk's target market is obviously people that want to make money with an online business. And that's probably true. But keep in mind that not everyone who wants to make money online is actually looking online for a solution.

The Rich Jerk knows the importance of reaching his target market - where ever they maybe. So, he created a "Rich Jerk infomercial" that will run be on tv screens nationwide beginning April 3rd. He's brilliantly targeting people that want to make money online, while their on the sofa watching tv! But, if the Rich Jerk just stopped there I'd be pretty disappointed, and I think he would to.

So, in true Rich Jerk style, he's going after the rude obnoxious crowd as well. And what better way to find them, then going directly to the "King of Crude" himself, Howard Stern.

Now, it's still not entirely clear whether Howard will be on the infomercial, Rich Jerk will be on Howard's show, or if they have a completely different business relationship all together, but the Rich Jerk knows that Howard Stern has a tremendously loyal following that will bark at his command.

As you can see, creating the hottest selling product on the Internet in such a fiercely competitive market as Internet Marketing is quite an accomplishment in it's self. But having the confidence and know-how to turn an ebook into a physical product plus offer additional services to to an offline market via an infomercial is a beautiful thing to see.

The Rich Jerk brilliantly created a marketing campaign that the Marketing community will be studying for years to come.
