Headache or Migraine? Three Indicators of Migraine

Author: Sue Jeffels

Do you suffer from migraine ? Contrary to what some people may think migraine is not just a headache. It is often a neurological condition that needs specialist help and treatment. Migraine is expensive to the businesses of any country, and as such is worthy of further research into its causes and effects. Hundreds of thousands of man hours are lost every year because people have to take time off with migraine. Some employers put migraine in the same category as other headaches and may think that an employee is taking time off unnecessarily. If this has happened to you then you need a letter from your doctor or neurologist explaining that migraine is a temporary incapacitating condition.

Unsure whether or not you have migraine. Next time you get a bad headache, look at the following three indicators. These will tell you whether it is migraine or simply a bad headache that you are suffering from.

Indicators That It's Migraine

*Visual disturbance-this can range from sensitivity to light, to

flashing lights before your eyes, to temporary blindness.

*Nausea-sometimes it is just a sensation of nausea and you may go hot

and cold, sometimes there is continual vomiting.

*Pain-usually on one side of your head, often in your eyes and down

your neck.

Sometimes migraine is triggered by a sensitivity to temperature change, sometimes it is an allergy to certain foods, and sometimes it is brought on by stress. It is aggravated by poor circulation and often when a person is suffering from migraine the veins at their temples become swollen. In some cases migraine is a severe neurological condition that can bring temporary paralysis. Many sufferers now seek the help of a neurologist.

Unless you are prescribed treatments by a neurologist or sometimes your GP nothing works. You just have to sit it out because migraine is not just a headache. It is the daddy of them all.
