Hurricanes and Business Careers

Author: Lance Winslow

One thing we learned during the 2005 Atlantic tropical hurricane season was that large category hurricanes when they devastate and destroy an area; they also destroyed business careers and force people to move on to greener pastures. Often corporate employees or even small business owners have to move to other cities and start again.

Generally we find that qualified hard-working individuals will find jobs they are looking for in other cities and with a low unemployment rates ranging around 4.9 percent there is plenty of work in the rest of the country for these people who are now out of work and have lost everything. It is not easy to lose everything and start all over again.

We should support the men and women who have battled adversity and built a stronger character because of it. Hurricanes in large devastating events caused by mother nature seem to shake up the pot a little bit and then change lives forever, as well as business careers.

For some they see this as an opportunity and others see it as survival, but it is up to each one of us to roll with the punches and do what we must do in our business careers to succeed and survive. If you have recently changed business careers because of a catastrophic large category hurricane then you know what I am saying here. Don't be afraid of life sometimes things just work out that way and you must press on because perseverance is both the shortest and longest road to success. So, consider all this in 2006.
